We must educate the public to show them, it is NOT the
dogs, but the irresponsible owners that are ruining it for the innocent
dogs that have committed no crime. We must stop the Breed Specific
Legislation before wonderful breeds have been put on the extinction
list. Punish the irresponsible owners, not the dogs.
While there are irresponsible owners, there are
countless more responsible owners by far. These dogs have been either
loved from birth or found love. As you see in this video, the Pit bull
breeds are not for everyone. They require much understand, socializing
and love. If you don't have those qualities, then you shouldn't own a
Pit bull breed.
Bad breeding is also a quality an irresponsible owner
seeks, or they are using the breeds as a negative status symbol. The
responsible owners are against back yard breeders, puppy mills, dog
fighting and all the associations that use and abuse these breeds and
any other breeds.
While it is true, that in the early 1800's, these dogs
were bred for fighting. They were bred and taught to fight other dogs in
the pit. The owners and handlers were there the whole time making sure
that the fight didn't get out of hand. Even then, they were never taught human aggression and were loyal
companions of their families. If a dog did displayed human aggression, they
were immediately shot. How is it, that these dogs fought each other, yet
didn't bite the handlers in the pit?
Now that dog fighting is illegal, only the
irresponsible owners are using this and other abusive techniques
to train their dogs, only they are not concerned about the human
aggression as it is to their own illegal advantages. They feed their
dogs ground glass and gun powder, just to name a few to make them
aggressive. How would you feel if your insides were being torn up inside
from eating these things? Tell me you wouldn't feel aggressive. They are
left abandoned with no human contact without food or water chained to a
fence for weeks at a time with no shelter from the elements. Contact
they may get is being brutally smacked by a 2 by 4 or an iron pipe. If
the dog is no good for fighting, it's other use is bait and if it should
survive it will be used over and over again with gouges and torn eye
sockets that are never attended to.
A friend of mine posed this remark to me. There are
cock fights, so should they ban all chickens? What about cows due to
bull fighting? Ridicules, yes! The point here is it is man that teaches
the cocks to fight to the death. It is man that teaches the bull to
fight and it is man that teaches the Pit bull breeds to fight. By their
very nature, it is not instinctively breed within them, but taught or in
the cases of the undesirable, irresponsible breeders, are bred with two
highly aggressive dogs with the hopes of obtaining more of the same.
The pups that aren't aggressive has there own value to
these owners. They are used as bait to aggravate the dogs even further
as they are used to be ripped apart, maimed and eventual death. This
they call sport? These 'people' are the same ones that steal your
precious dogs and cats and use them as bait. Free to a good home sign,
makes it even easier for them.
Prior to the Pit fighting, the dogs were used to pull
down bulls. What you probably don't know is that many more of the dogs
died in this sport that is acknowledged. The dogs were swung around
getting battered and smashed down to the ground, often stomped on. They
were gouged by the bulls horns, swung around like limp dolls and torn up and many never recovered or survived. You view
the dog as the aggressor and the bull as the victim, when they were both
victims of man.
You blame the dogs, but it is the irresponsible owners
that are the criminals. No! We don't want aggressive dogs! We want the
criminals that are creating these aggressive dogs by all sorts of horrid
means where they deserve, behind bars and not allowed to own another dog
to ruin. Banning breeds does not stop those that think they are above
the law.
Here in Ontario, where the Pit bull breeds have been
banned, but allow for grandfathering providing they comply to strict
rules. In my city alone, there were only 300 registered Pit bull breeds
and mixes registered. The year prior, there were approximately almost
700, plus you must also consider there were puppies born throughout the
year. The numbers don't add up and that shows there are a lot more
dogs not registered that should be.
There is no excuse for people to say they didn't know.
It's been highly publicized in the media through newspapers repeating
themselves, the TV, radio, the internet and even notices sent to owners
that were registered the year before. I've come across people that are
walking their dogs un-muzzled and when they notice Shasta, their first
question is, "She's beautiful! Is she fixed?"
When I talk to them about the ban, they aren't the
least bit concerned. They walk their un-muzzled, un-altered dog around
with pride and not one bit of fear that their dog could be taken from
them and put down. They talk openly that they want to breed their dogs.
I try to explain all the adult dogs that are already in shelters and
foster homes needing forever homes. The last thing we need is more
illegal puppies and I warn them that Animal Care is aware of the
unregistered dogs and it's only a matter of time before their dogs will
be led away.
These people have an excuse for all my answers, but
that won't help them, nor their dogs once they get caught and my heart
goes out to those dogs as the owners have targeted them as victims. They
fall victims because irresponsible owners think they are above the law
and don't think they should need to follow rigid laws and bylaws. It's
not the dogs that are at fault here, it's their owners. At the root of
the problem is the irresponsible owners and while we, the responsible
owners comply to all the laws, there are those that will continue to get
caught, be publicized and it looks like we still have a pit bull
problem, when in fact, it's people that are the problem.
The danger does not start at the breed, it starts with
the owners and breeders. To make a law that would help eliminate the
irresponsible owners and backyard/puppy mill breeders makes more sense than a Breed Specific
Ban.
With the continuation of the banning of these breeds,
the irresponsible owners will go on to another breed to use for their
same purposes. How many Specific Breed Bans do we have to have before
the general public understands where the real danger lies? How many
countless dogs will be mass murdered before they finally realize? How
many household pets need to be removed from their loving homes before
the truth actually hits home? What if your beloved family pet was on the
next list?
This video was made by Pitbulljungle
in memory of all the needless killings of Pit bulls in Canada after the
Ontario Pit bull Ban got underway.

'Crucify
Me'
Fight me, deny me, and crucify
me,
My sins are yours, they're not
mine.
You make me what I am, evil at
your command.
You send me to meet my
challenger, whatever it may be.
I risk my life to line your
pockets for nothing but pain and agony.
Three feet of chain with
nowhere to go, there's not much here to see.
No time to play, its work,
work, work, that's how life is for me.
Run the treadmill. Pull the
blocks and hang there from the tree.
If my ribs feel a little thick,
then not much food for me.
I'm in tip top shape, a muscle
bound freak, with all the attitude I need.
I've got gameness several
generations back. You should see my pedigree!
Pump me up! Hype me up! Throw
me some bait! How about that young pup?
Watch me rip his eyeballs out;
I need the taste of blood.
I've been hit. I've been beat.
I've been left to die in the ring.
I've been sewed up! I've been
ripped open and I've had several bones broken!
I've scratched when I couldn't
stand and I've stood up when I couldn't scratch!
I've killed a few dogs and I've
nearly died when I've met my match!
Fight me, deny me, and crucify

Not some twisted psychopath,

I've grown too old now to fight
in your ring.
You've left me no chance, to
ever be free
I lay in the darkness, no one
at my side
my last fight I lost, my eyes
no longer can see
this is what you have done, do
you not feel shame?
I can no longer walk, run or
play
you have a new puppy now, the
one to take my place
the cold and darkness closing
now, you have nothing to say?
I lay here in pain and my own
blood
I still believe that you love
me and I try to stay awake
But you kick me and wish me
dead then tell them to tie the bag
The darkness is here now; I
hope they catch you, for the new puppy's sake
Fight me, deny me, and crucify

My sins are yours, they're not

This was sent to me by a friend and I
think the poem speaks for itself.
I
Didn’t Want To
I
didn’t want to be this way,
I didn’t want to go away.
I didn’t want to bite or scratch,
I only wanted to play catch.
As hard as I tried to be nice.
You would hit me more then twice.
You didn’t want me to be kind,
You wanted people to fear and mind.
You forced me to attack and kill,
You finally broke my will.
All I wanted was to please,
All I got was teased.
Daily beatings was the norm,
Until I finally did conform.
You forced me to fight and mame
All I felt was shame.
You didn’t care about the blood,
That it oozed out like a flood.
You left me behind because I didn’t win,
To animal lovers that’s a sin.
Someone was kind but I was scared,
I wouldn’t let them near because I feared.
My body bloody and full of scars,
I almost welcome being hit by cars.
I was shot by a man with a gun
Because I was on the run.
They saw what kind I was,
But never saw how kind I was.
All they knew was that I had killed,
Just doing what my owner had willed.
So from my start I was condemned
All because I wasn’t properly homed.

UPDATE ON GYPSY!
My very dear friend, Andee
from North Carolina saw Gypsy at the PetsMart and had this to say:
Gypsy!
~ The Angel Pit Bull"

Well guess what folks... I made it back to PetSmart today to see
Gypsy. I was at my parent's house and asked them if they wanted to
go see her too. My dad wanted to see her, since he's heard us talk a
lot about her. (He actually has a soft spot for dogs, but shhhh,
don't tell anyone.) Anyway, Gypsy's new dad & mom are great and
love her so much. Her dad was holding Gypsy in the back. We didn't
want to take our dogs too close to her because she still has flash
backs and thinks the dogs are trying to fight her. We talked for
about a 1/2 hour to him. Can you believe that they raised $10,000 to
give for any information leading to a conviction of the person that
did the horridness to Gypsy.... and no one still stepped forward.
I'd like to cut the guy's ears off with a razor or scissors just
like they did to her and throw him on the side of the road.
Her dad said that on the Tri-County Rescue site that they took a lot
of the stuff off about Gypsy because they didn't want people to
think they were "using" her to get $$. Out of all the
letters and donations they received from all over the country, only
about 4 or 5 were negative against Gypsy and pit bulls. Even Richard
Pryor's wife, Jennifer, sent a letter and donation. Isn't that
cool!?!?
Her dad was nice enough to let me take some pictures of her and even
hold her while he took a short break. She looked so great compared
to what she's been through. I was watching her little nub of ears
and when she would "normally" be putting her ears back,
they wiggled just a little and it was so cute, but I couldn't
imagine the pain she went through by some idiot cutting them off.
They had a photo album of Gypsy's story with pictures and newspaper
clippings. My dad was looking at it and I think he was amazed at
everything. They said that Gypsy must have be "right
pawed" because she still has a little bit of a hard time
landing when she stands up on her back paws or jumps. You could tell
she was spoiled rotten. What a lucky girl.
They also had a raffle of a drawing of a pit bull with angel wings
that someone had drawn and donated to the rescue. It was an awesome
picture, I hope I can win it, but whomever does, they're a lucky
person, it was a beautiful drawing. If I win it, it will be hanging
on the wall going up my stairs for everyone to see.
In the bottom pic, you can kinda see the drawing they were raffling
off. They other picture is of my dad and Gypsy. It was a great trip
today. Although, I think Storm got just a little jealous that I was
giving Gypsy attention for a little bit. But that's OK Stormie, I've
got enough to go around for everyone.
